Big Recruit

Bob Stoops definitely believes in giving people second chances. Do you remember Lynn McGruder?

He was one of the most highly recruited defensive tackles in the country when he was playing his senior year of high school in Las Vegas. But this talented player broke the Sooners hearts when he signed a letter of intent to play at Tennessee.

Things didn’t work out for him there. He got tossed from the team because of off the field problems. The Sooners gave him a second chance and it worked out well both on and off the field.

OU is ready to give another former highly recruited player a second chance. A couple of years ago they recruited offensive lineman Jarvis Jones from Rosenberg, TX. He was rated as the No. 12 prep lineman in the country.

He wound up heading to LSU. This past year he played in seven games for the Tigers as a true freshman. It appeared he would have a promising career. That was until he ran into off the field problems and was kicked off  the team by coach Les Miles.

Now Jones is looking for another school and it could be OU. He visited the Sooners for a couple of days this past Thursday and Friday.

“He had a very good visit and likes Oklahoma very much. He liked them a lot when he was in high school, also. But I think he wants to take some more visits before he makes up his mind,” said one source. “He’s a very talented player who could be an all-conference choice for a couple of years.”

Jones will have to sit out this upcoming season, but would still have three years of eligibility remaining.
