Big Recruit

Just a few years ago Oklahoma coveted a top high school recruit from Las Vegas named Lynn McGruder. The big defensive tackle broke their hearts when he signed a letter of intent with Tennessee.

But McGruder ran into off the field problems and was booted from the Vols team. He then wound up transferring to OU where he had a very good career. Once again the Sooners are willing to give a second chance to a player from the Southeastern Conference.

A couple of year ago the Sooners tried to recruit Jarvis Jones, a highly recruited offensive lineman from Rosenberg, TX. But Jones, who was ranked as the No. 12 offensive lineman in the country, signed a letter of intent with LSU.

It appeared that Jones was going to have an excellent career for the Tigers. He played in seven games last year as a true freshman. But he got into off the field problems and coach Les Miles dismissed him from the team.

Well Oklahoma is trying to land this 6-7 250-pounder once again. Jones has been on campus the last two days visiting the Sooners. He could redshirt this year and still have three years of eligibility remaining.

“I think he’s Oklahoma’s to lose. He liked them coming out of high schol, but he just liked LSU better,” said one source. “He’s definitely talented enough that he could be an all-conference lineman some day. He also knows that he would have a chance to play right away at OU.”

Jones would be a welcomed addition since the Sooners will have to rebuild their offensive line next season. OU is hoping they can get a verbal commitment from him today so he will not take any otrher visits.”
