What’s in a name?

     Well when you are talking about the new Oklahoma City NBA team you are getting names from everyone. It doesn’t matter what the sex or age are, everyone has a name they like.

     I don’t think I’ve seen anything like this around here. The interest has peaked. The suggestions are limitless. There have been good ideas and there have really been stupid ideas.

     The bottom line is that the Oklahoma City ownership probably has picked out the name a long time ago. They’re just waiting for the NBA to approve it. What’s in a name? Well it will be a name they can make money on. It’s all about marketing. What will look good on a jacket. What will look good on a tee-shirt. They have to sell merchandising.

     The NBA is part of this decision. Again, it’s about marketing. Why hasn’t the name been announced? There’s all kind of steps to go through. What other sport team has the name? What are the trademarks?

     Usually when a franchise selects a new name it has something to do with the city or state that the team resides in. So I have to think it will be something with a midwestern ring. It could have a Cowboy theme, Or what about native American.

     Hopefully the name will be announced soon, real soon. Some of the suggestions are starting to wear me out.
