No doubt about it, you have two teams heading in the opposite direction.
Usually when Oklahoma State and Oklahoma tangle in baseball you figure anything can happen. Well that doesn’t seem to be the case with the two teams opening a three-game set. It will be a total shocker if the Cowboys don’t win at least two out of three.
This has been an OSU team that has been on fire. It was supposed to be a rebuilding year in Stillwater this season. The only thing that coach Frank Anderson has built is one of the best teams in the country. They have been dominant over the last month and a half.
The Cowboys are dreaming of heading to Omaha to play in the College World Series. The Sooners are just hoping they can get into next week’s Big 12 tournament. And they are going to have to win at least one game this weekend to accomplish that chore.
There are those who think OU coach Sunny Golloway should be banished from the Sooner coaching job. I’m not in that corner. I think he should get at least one more year.
Golloway is a good baseball coach. Look what he did as an assistant when the Sooners won their last national championship over a decade ago. And look at the success he had as a head coach at Oral Roberts. Also, he did an excellent job when he had to take over for Larry Cochell, after the racist remarks were made.
Golloway wasn ‘t helped this year when he lost his ace pitcher Stephen Porlier before the year began. Now it’s obvious that more is expected from this program. Just getting into the Big 12 tournament every year isn’t going to cut it.
But Golloway has one more year on his contract with the Sooners. Let’s see what happens the rest of the season and what goes on next year before his future is decided.
